Meet A Community Member ~ Michelle from SimplifyLiveLove
Michelle is a city girl turned rural Iowa transplant. Her blog, SimplifyLiveLove, chronicles her family’s efforts to live a frugal, sustainable, and green life. Blogging, homeschooling four children, teaching online community college classes, cooking from scratch, and growing a large portion of our food makes for very busy days, and she shares a lot of successes and failures on her blog.
SimplifyLiveLove is also a resource for families going through Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip. Michelle was devastated when her youngest child was diagnosed with a dislocated left hip in 2010. At the time, there were not a lot of resources for information or help. Michelle is glad to provide valuable information for families going through this tough time on SimplifyLiveLove, too.
What has been your favorite campaign with Social Fabric?
I’ve really enjoyed them all. I’ve worked with amazing brands and campaign leaders, have learned so much in the process, and have enjoyed fabulous experiences we wouldn’t have had otherwise. My all time favorite campaign was checking out the RedCupShowdown at the Iowa State Fair. I’d never been to a live food contest before. Our family had such a wonderful day at the fair and I was so excited to see the Iowa winner win the grand prize in New York!
My favorite recent campaign was probably the ELF campaign, though. I really enjoyed trying out ELF’s mineral makeup to get ready for my 20th high school reunion. I love my look and feel better about myself than I have in a long time.
What do you enjoy most about the Social Fabric Community?
I enjoy all of the opportunities SoFab provides. Connecting with such talented bloggers has dramatically improved my own blogging. And I am always challenged to do better. I am excited with the direction my blog has taken since becoming a Social Fabric member. I also really loved the Food Photography course and am looking forward to meeting people face to face at a Social Fabric Conference!
Please share a link from a campaign you have participated in so we can all go check it out!
Any fun or interesting facts about yourself or your blog that you would like to share with the world?
My family moved to Germany when I was 6 years old and stayed there until I started high school. Moving to Central Missouri was a huge culture shock for me but sparked a desire to live a rural life. After moving from California to Japan to Arizona to Colorado with my active duty Air Force husband, we decided to separate from the military and establish permanent roots in his home town in rural Eastern Iowa. We absolutely loved traveling, meeting new people, and learning about new cultures, but we finally realized that we couldn’t raise farm kids if we didn’t live in the country. We are self-employed home remodelers now and enjoy our civilian life.
If you were sent to a deserted island with one other person, who would it be and what 3 things would you bring with you?
I’d bring my husband, of course. I’d also bring a bottle of wine, a good book, and a boat.
