The Psychic Side of Sales
Psychics, tarot readers, astrology, palm reading. Whether you believe in their validity or not, there is one thing they all have in common. They have the power to shift your perspective. When I walked by LadyVirginia’s tent at the Renaissance Festival last weekend, I felt a pull to her. But at that moment, the pull of the turkey leg and mead stands were stronger so I walked right on by. She stayed lodged in my head so I knew I had to circle back to pick her brain about some questions I had been wondering about – even though I felt a little bit nervous about it. Did I really want to know the answers she would give me? I mean, I wasn’t asking when I was going to die or anything. I just wanted to know the typical questions about life – career, love, money – all the stuff we want to happen perfectly right now but often must be patient to see come to fruition.
After the obligatory turkey leg and mug ‘o mead (or two), I entered LadyVirginia’s tent where she sat in long flowing skirts and a scarf around her head. I was at the Renaissance Festival so I’m not sure if she was just dressing the part or she normally looked like a gypsy. Either way, she looked legit so I settled in for some insights.
Her first observation was that I had been through a rocky few years. That is an understatement. As a widow mom you can imagine my head fiercely nodding in agreement. Yep – nailed it! Score one for LadyVirginia.
Next, she asked if I had any special questions. Of course I told her I wanted to know about my love life. I’ll spare you the details, but she said she thinks I’ll be single for awhile longer. Not the answer I wanted but after she gave me some insights into why, I came to terms with it. (But secretly I was calling bullsh*t. I’m going to prove that one wrong!)
Next I told her I had recently started a new job as the General Manager of Collective Bias’s Minnesota office but felt frustrated because I was off to a slow start which made me nervous for my own job security and the future growth of the company. I mean – there is some serious pressure riding on the MN market to contribute to the big plans we have and I do NOT like to fall short or disappoint – in anything I do. Her initial statement almost made me cry. “Well – I don’t see anything happening for awhile.” No way! I couldn’t believe it – again NOT what I wanted to hear. But then she said, “But in a few weeks I really see things starting to turn.” Whew – okay – a few weeks sounds okay. Then she went on to explain that she sees a steady stream of money trickling in over the winter (again not the best answer but better than no money). Then she really got me excited when she said that come springtime she sees “massive amounts of money” flowing in that will just grow over the summer. Hallelujah!!
So – two big scores for LadyVirginia– nailed the rocky path and the money flow. Big fat boo to her love prediction.
The moral of the story is that every situation can be looked at, planned and acted upon in certain ways whether it’s a personal life goal or a career-related plan. I walked in feeling anxiety and fear about my new role at Collective Bias but walked out feeling inspired and ready to take action to make the “massive money” roll in – because things don’t just happen in a vacuum. There has to be planning behind it. And luckily I’m a Type-A planner so I’ve got that covered. Today, as I began re-assessing my sales prospect list, I realized that just because I build it doesn’t mean they will come. I must provide something compelling and actionable to engage clients in new ways. Luckily Collective Bias makes that easy – we epitomize compelling and actionable. It’s amazing how just a tiny little shift in perspective by a psychic pushed me into a new place of energy and excitement that will not only benefit me, but will benefit clients, consumers and Collective Bias! Now – fate – let’s get those clients rolling in!
So do I believe in psychics? Ask me next summer!
