Melissa Lawler started playing with computers way back when in the days of old. She taught herself BASIC programming on a Tandy CoCo 2. She graduated to a horrendously expensive IBM computer shortly after they came out and taught herself batch programming in DOS. She also ran a BBS from that computer using a 1400 baud modem. This was the dinosaur age of home computing. She also belonged to a SySop group that had “Find the bug” parties whenever Microsoft would issue a new version of DOS.

Melissa has been blogging off and on since 1998. Her current blog began after becoming too sick to hold down a traditional job in May of 2011. She blogs about eating gluten free. She LOVES creating gluten free recipes. She’s in love with trying new products and writing about them, as well as giving them away. Blogging really saved her sanity!

What has been your favorite campaign with Social Fabric?

Champions for Kids…. I love doing something that helps others. I love spotlighting different organizations. Last Christmas I did the Disney Champions for Kids campaign. I chose my local homeless shelter for the donation. I found that donations were way down, so I have already started collecting items for this year’s donation. They are my main cause this year, and I will be sending out letters to sponsors in September. I want to give those kids an awesome Christmas this year.

What do you enjoy most about the Social Fabric Community?

The people! Everyone is so incredibly nice and helpful. I love Christy Gossett. I could not ask for a more supportive Campaign Leader. She is the BEST!

Please share a link from a campaign you have participated in so we can all go check it out!

Any fun or interesting facts about yourself or your blog that you would like to share with the world?

I have three children: Michelle is 33, Eli is 26, and Ryan is 25. I have a spectacular grandson, named Brock, who is the light of my life. I live with my daughter, Ryan, who is also my best friend. We have an insane Maine Coon Cat named Molly who is either very loving or trying to eat me, depending on her mood.

If you were sent to a deserted island with one other person, who would it be and what 3 things would you bring with you?

I would definitely bring my daughter Ryan. We spend a lot of time together, and we have great conversations and work well as a team. We would bring a HUGE trunk full of books (we are both voracious readers), and I would bring a second big trunk full of chocolate. What is life without chocolate? Last I would bring a solar powered MP3 player with speakers. Life is not worth living unless there is a sound track!
