Social Fabric Theme of the Week: Spring Cleaning
Though this winter has not been mild for everyone, it would seem that spring is on the way in some parts of the country. Social Fabric bloggers have been chatting it up about spring cleaning, so the topic seemed perfect to usher in the month of March. What about you? Do you enjoy opening up the windows, deep cleaning, decluttering, and overall, giving your home a good spring cleaning after a long, dark winter?
29 Social Fabric members answered a survey we put out, in regards to spring cleaning their homes. Take a look at the results….
We asked members how often they participate in spring cleaning. 75% answered not just in the spring, but several times per year; 10% answered every month. Next we asked which rooms they are focusing most of their cleaning energy on this year. The top room was the bedroom, at 64%; the kitchen/pantry, along with closets, came in with 60% of the vote. The basement was the least favored room to work on, with only 10% choosing this room. 96% of those who responded say they purchase spring cleaning supplies at a mass retail store like Walmart, Kmart, or Target; 44% shop at a home improvement store, like Lowes or Home Depot. We next asked them about their cleaning habits and what they do with items they declutter. 100% noted that they donate items; 65% throw things out. 62% resell items on sites like Ebay, Craigslist, etc; 55% find ways to repurpose items or give items to friends and family. So, what is your definition of spring cleaning? 70% of those who answered our survey said that spring cleaning means cleaning every room, top to bottom (moving furniture, washing curtains, etc.). Why do they spring clean? 64% love to spring clean and enjoy having a fresh, clean home; it just feels good. 3% answered that it’s a natural transition from winter to spring.

Yes! I’m decluttering AND deep cleaning. The weather is so nice around here, it’s put me in the mood to clean and simplify. I’m working on every room in the house and in a couple weeks we’ll work on the garage. This week I’m focusing on getting clothes and toys together that the kids have outgrown to donate. Next I’ll start on all the deep cleaning. I love organizing so this is all fun for me; my family doesn’t like it as much ~ Crystal from A Pumpkin and a Princess.

I found lots of missing things in here and even unpacked all the boxes that I stuffed under the craft table before the holidays! Next is our bedroom! I am putting all the stuff we don’t want on eBay and have made enough so far this week to attend our local scrapbooking retreat in April!! ~ Sarah from Hope in Every Season.

I’ve been working on it since the beginning of the year! With 3 little ones running around, I can’t find time to do very much at a time, so I’m just concentrating on one small thing per day. It’s really starting to shape up around here! ~ MaryEllen from The Deal Scoop.

We’re doing some major spring cleaning – deep cleaning & de-cluttering. We just received orders overseas, so we have a little extra motivation. Our entire house, including garage, will be tackled. Right now, I’m working on the office/playroom/schoolroom ~ Heather from Marine Corps Nomads.
I’m always in Spring cleaning mode! Here’s a little secret….I love to clean, and do laundry, and the dishes, and vacuum…although I must admit, I am not a fan of windows. If it doesn’t sparkle, it doesn’t make me happy! ~ Christy from Insanity Is Not an Option.
