Theme of the Week: Halloween/Fall Decorating
What better topic to talk about right now in this chilly fall month of October, than the topic of Halloween/Fall Decorating? Halloween will be here in just a few short weeks, so our members have weighed in on what matters to them when it comes to this festive time of year. Don’t forget! Our @CollectiveBias Twitter chat will be held this Friday, October 7 at 12:30 pm EST. We’ll be discussing all things Halloween/fall decor and entertaining, so be sure to join us by using the hashtags #Halloween and #Cbias.
Now to find out where Social Fabric members stand when it comes to decorating for Halloween. When asked what their usual method of decorating is, 33% of members go crazy, decorating every nook and cranny of their home, while 30% decorate only certain parts of the house. Where do members shop for Halloween decor? An overwhelming 76% shop at mass retail stores like Walmart, Kmart, or Target; 16% shop at craft stores. Of course, many people have a favorite type of decor they like to use. Our members were mixed, as you can see by their answers below. When asked why they decorate for Halloween, 46% answered that they decorate just because they love it, while 36% decorate for their family. Where do they find inspiration for said Halloween decor? 51% of members find their inspiration on blogs, while smaller numbers answered magazines, websites (like Martha Stewart), or craft stores.
When it comes to crafting, we have some very creative members in Social Fabric. 50% of members said that they and their families enjoy paper crafting, while 32% enjoy paint crafts and 14% enjoy foam crafts. It’s interesting to note that most of our members (73%) enjoy piecing together supplies for Halloween crafting, rather than purchasing all-in-one craft kits. 70% of members start to decorate and craft for Halloween in late September, early October. Finally, when asked if they have a theme in regards to costumes this year, there were mixed answers, most of them replying that they don’t really have a theme at all.
