Every week in the Social Fabric community, we will be incorporating a theme, this week’s theme being DIY. Every Friday we’ll also have a weekly chat related to the topic at hand. This week’s chat will be Friday at 12:30-1 EST on Twitter, using the hashtags #DIY and #CBias. Be sure to join us!

We asked Social Fabric members to fill out a survey related to their personal DIY habits. According to the survey, the most popular room in the home to makeover is the bathroom, and the least popular is the foyer. So, when is the best time to makeover that room? The most popular time happens to be a long weekend. Where do Social Fabric members find their DIY inspiration? Most of our members are inspired by either magazines or television. A lot goes into a total room makeover, so where do you suppose members shop for their supplies? For products like wood, bathroom hardware, and flooring, Home Depot was a #1 answer. Sears was a #1 answer for appliances. For more of the cosmetics that go into a room, such as paint, home decor, furniture, etc., members mostly shop places like Target, Walmart, or even thrift stores. Finally, how is the makeover planned out from start to finish? Most members talked about the visualization that goes into planning a makeover. Before ever starting, it’s visualized and well thought out, drawing on inspiration from magazines and pictures gathered. Budgeting is another aspect to creating the room of one’s dreams.

Since inspiration seems to be a mainstay with any room makeover, here are some posts from Social Fabric members to hopefully get you going on the room of your dreams.

I never cease to be amazed by the fantastic DIY work and inspiration from the Social Fabric community! Rebecca- What are you working on these days? I may not be a DIY expert, but I do enjoy reading about it (and who doesn’t love before & after photos?) I even created a Smarties DIY Pinterest board called “Smarties Do It Themselves” (http://pinterest.com/smarties/smarties-do-it-themselves/). Maybe one day I’ll get on that Mason Jar Chandelier I’ve been dreaming about…
Great theme of the week, year, lifetime! Woot!

Thanks for including my daughter’s room. The project was completed 1 1/2 years ago and was a true labor of love for many hours, but it’s held up very well and she still loves it.

Looking at so many of the other projects, I’m just so impressed with everyone’s ability to see beyond the surface of things and create the end results that are true inspriations!
